Our people are at the heart of everything we do — their ideas, energy, and drive shape our success.
If you’re a relationship‑driven, commercially minded BDM based in or around the Northampton, Leicester, or Birmingham geographic area, who thrives on helping businesses grow, building trusted partnerships, and driving performance across multiple product lines, this is your opportunity to make a real impact.
About the Role
As our Business Development Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in helping appointed representative (AR) firms across your region maximise their potential. Your focus? Supporting firms to grow revenue, improve product penetration, and deliver consistently high‑quality advice — all while strengthening long‑term relationships.
This is a hands‑on, high‑engagement role where you’ll work directly with firm owners and advisers, helping them identify opportunities, improve processes, and get the most from our systems, tools, and product ranges. You’ll also provide strategic insight, coaching, and practical support that drives measurable commercial outcomes.
If you enjoy building rapport, spotting opportunities, and seeing your work directly influence business performance, you’ll feel right at home here.
What You’ll Be Doing
Performance growth — Support firms to increase penetration across Protection, GI, and mortgage products, with clear targets and measurable outcomes.
Relationship management — Build strong, trusted partnerships with AR firms and advisers, becoming their go‑to expert for guidance, support, and commercial insight.
Regular firm engagement — Hold at least 10 structured meetings per week (face‑to‑face, phone, or Teams), ensuring every firm receives consistent, high‑quality support.
Insight & preparation — Prepare tailored agendas, review MI, and identify key opportunities before each meeting to maximise value and impact.
Follow‑up & accountability — Record clear notes and actions using the 1‑2‑1 template, ensuring advisers have clarity on next steps and timelines.
Induction delivery — Support new firms and advisers by delivering induction sessions, providing hands‑on guidance, and helping them get up to speed quickly.
Retention support — Monitor adviser sentiment, identify early warning signs, and take proactive steps to reduce attrition and strengthen loyalty.
Collaboration with BDCs — Lead weekly reviews with Business Development Coordinators to align priorities, share insights, and coordinate proactive outreach.
Compliance & quality — Ensure all activity aligns with FCA regulations, Consumer Duty, and Stonebridge Business Standards.
Your Objectives
Your primary goal is to help AR firms grow — sustainably, compliantly, and with a focus on quality.
You’ll also play a key role in improving processes, strengthening adviser engagement, and supporting retention across your region. Everything you do should contribute to better customer outcomes, higher sales quality, and reduced risk.
